Cycle Vita PKU
Best Nutrition Mobile App — MedTech Breakthrough Awards. Sole mobile architect.
Context
Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a rare inherited metabolic condition — patients have to track phenylalanine intake, medication and lab results meticulously, on the go. Cycle Pharmaceuticals wanted one companion app to consolidate all of it, with AI shrinking the friction of meal logging.
I was engaged from day zero — part of the technical estimation before the project was signed; my input shaped the proposal that won it.
What I shipped
- The entire mobile architecture, from scratch. Module boundaries, state model, persistence, networking, navigation, error and observability paths — the codebase now in production for a global PKU patient population sits on that design.
- AI Meal Scanner flow — image upload and result UX against a server-side AI model returning estimated Phe, integrated with the .NET backend.
- Subscriptions on both stores via RevenueCat — paywall, restore, entitlement gating.
- Multi-environment pipeline — Android product flavors + iOS schemes for debug / UAT / release from one codebase with isolated configs and signing.
- Medication reminders, lab-result tracking, care-team contact, Auth0 auth.
- Led deployment to the App Store and Play Store.
Outcome
- Won “Best Nutrition Mobile App” at the 10th annual MedTech Breakthrough Awards — selected from 5,000+ submissions.
- Live on both stores for a global pharmaceutical sponsor, scaling to a worldwide patient population on the architecture I designed alone.
